The Challenge
Fred Meyer Stores, Inc. (owned by The Kroger Company) is a popular chain of hypermarket superstores located in Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Alaska. The chain was founded in 1922 as a one-stop shop for groceries, pharmacy needs, banking, clothing, home improvement items, electronics, toys, and more.
Barghausen got the opportunity to work with the Fred Meyer location in Maple Valley, WA. The development included:
- a 23-acre regional retail shopping center
- a 175,000 square foot Fred Meyer store
- multiple commercial structures for banking, restaurants, and medical clinics totaling another 100,000 square foot for commercial use
A project of this magnitude, of course, came with its own challenges. Our team faced stringent site design criteria as well as the relocation of an operational lumber facility. In addition, we were tasked with tree preservation and enhanced landscaping for this particular project.
