Salish Village, situated on 160 acres, is the largest retail development undertaken in Whatcom County this century. Located just 15 miles from the Canadian border, Salish Village expects over a million visitors annually. Barghausen was contracted by Lummi Commercial Company for the architecture, energy design and landscape architecture design of the Lummi Bay Market, a market, fueling station and truck stop established on 22 acres of the tribal site. The design included:
- A 9,800 sf convenience store with a drive-thru tobacco window, a full kitchen and two pads for drive-thru restaurants
- 24 automobile fueling positions with room for eight more in the future
- Ten high speed diesel truck fueling lanes with a separate truck stop
- A truck scale
- Two fuel dispensing areas that include concrete fueling pads with raised islands and bollard protection
- Two graveled overflow parking areas totaling 1.5 acres
- 50kW EV charging stations
In addition, the project site required clearing and grading 22 acres of vegetated land and permanently filling 2.2 acres of wetland. Our team designed this project to Lummi Tribal design standards, including cultural artwork. This consisted of research to feature the most popular pre-prepared food and drink options as well as enhanced tobacco options consistent with most tribal convenience stores.
