How long did you study for the exam?
I started the weekend after July 4th and probably averaged 15-20 hours per week from mid-August until the test.
What does passing the exam mean for your professional future?
It means everything! I’m excited to have this as a tool to help build trust and relationships with people in and around the industry. My Uncle had his PE and mentored me towards this industry, so I’m ready to embrace the responsibility that comes with one.
How are you celebrating this huge accomplishment?
I’m going to relax and have a stress-free holiday season with my friends and family now that the results are no longer pending. It will be nice to have time to cook tastier meals on the weekend again, so I’m looking forward to that. My golf game could use some attention after studying for the test, so I’d love to make up some time there too.
I want to add that I’m thankful for the friends, family and colleagues that helped support me along this journey. I know they all played a part in my journey along the way.
Matt Colling, P.E.
How long did you study for the exam?
I dug my school books out of the garage about four months before the exam to see if I had remembered anything and I was actually encouraged! Focused studying started three months out from the exam and continued five or six days a week until the week of the exam.
What does passing the exam mean for your professional future?
I’m not sure! Ask me again in five years and I’ll have a better idea what doors a Professional Engineering license opens.
How are you celebrating this huge accomplishment?
I haven’t done anything yet but I’m sure we will once we get through the holidays, but honestly the relief of it being over is reward enough for me.
